The upcoming Plasma 6.7 is probably one of my most anticipated updates since I started using KDE about a decade ago. I use a Macbook for work, and after some time, I have gotten used to the MacOS work flow and muscle memory is something hard to shake. I don’t remember what it’s called in MacOS, but the KDE equivalent is called Overview and it’s always felt a bit limited in its capabilities…well, that’s a thing of the past now! Plasma 6.7 has brought a much request feature to the desktop after a long, looooong time that makes Overview feel more like the MacOS experience! That feature is the per-monitor virtual desktops!
The Situation and the Set Up…
My work set up is a typical multi-monitor arrangement with one monitor extended another. Sometimes, I’ll throw in the XR glasses to add a third if I’m limited on space where I’m working. Having all these screens requires a lot of window management especially since I tend to have many open at once. With KDE Plasma prior to the update, I would have to switch the entire virtual desktop to get to the one application that I need on any one particular screen. With Plasma 6.7, that’s no longer necessary! Now, I just use the touchpad to switch desktops, Ctrl + Meta + left/right arrow combo, Overview with press Meta + Space or upward swipe with touchpad, or click on the desktop I want to switch to with one of the pagers that slides in from top.
